The above named school was established by the then bishop of Ikot Ekpene Catholic Diocese, Most. Rev. Dr. C.A Etokudoh in collaboration with the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1995.
In October 1994, the bishop appointed a four man committee to carry out a feasibility study on opening a Diocesan Secondary School for girls. On 25th October the same year, the committee submitted its report which Urua Edet Obo was recommended as a site. In 1995, there was an approval of the school plan/project by Bishop C.A Etokudoh, and the building blessing of the convent, classroom block and dining hall (multipurpose) kicked off immediately. In 1995, the first meeting of some members from the Ministry of Education with the Ad hoc committee took place in the school premises (Urua Edet Obo). Entrance Examination (pioneer) took place on the 24th August, 1995. Notre Dame Girls Secondary School was officially commissioned on the 10th October, 1995.
Notre Dame Girls had a humble beginning and has bloomed into a beautiful and noble institution with a high esteem. She has been transformed into a centre of excellence. The school is one of the best institutions in Akwa Ibom state with excellent results and performance in both academics and extracurricular activities.
The School is located in a serene environment conducive for learning in Urua Edet Obo, Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The co-founders shared a vision that the renewal of society depends to a great extent on the family, in which the mother, the first educator, has a key role. Therefore, the school aims at giving a sound, balanced, disciplined education which will enable young women to develop to their fullest potential and provide them with knowledge and skills needed to assume their rightful role in the society. It is expected that the graduates from the school will contribute to the reduction of poverty and the promotion of socio-economic growth and development.
